Caterpillar, in support of Industry 4.0, is using robotic process automation, or RPA, to provide "digital assistants" to its workforce. With RPA, software robots can learn and replicate the manner in which a person carries out a certain repetitive, process-related task. Ken Hayslett and Rita Osborne from Caterpillar describe how to assess processes for automation, review real-world case studies, and share insights and best practices for implementation and getting started.
